NAACP Lauds African American Zombies In Resident Evil 5

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has issued a public statement lauding Capcom for including African American zombies in their upcoming game, Resident Evil 5.

“For years the video game industry has been stuck in a ‘white zombie paradigm.' Capcom has shown great foresight in using African American zombies for the protagonist to kill and maim,” said NAACP officer Julian Bond. “This is indeed a historic day, in which zombies of former slaves and zombies of former slave owners will be able to feast upon brains together.”

Kenichi Ueda, director of Resident Evil 5, has expressed relief in response to the statement.

“We really dodged a bullet on this one. We were kind of worried that some people would consider the killing of poor black people by a white alpha male to be ‘racist.’”

This is not the first time Capcom has been recognized for their work in video game diversity. Games such as the Street Fighter series included a wide array of characters from across the globe. Most recently, the company broke new ground by casting a dude named Wayne for their Xbox 360 shooter, Lost Planet.
