Microsoft Extends The Life Xbox 360 To Three Years

Microsoft has extended the life the Xbox 360 to 3 years, affecting all current and future owners of the videogame console.

With this new extension, all Xbox 360s are guaranteed not to break until 3 years after the system is first turned on. People who currently own an Xbox 360 and purchased their console before the announcement will receive a firmware update that will fix the system for the three years from their startup date. They can also request a free CD that will install the update.

"We have admitted our faults," said Peter Moore, head of the Xbox 360 division of Microsoft. "Because of this, we will honor all of our customers and make a promise to them, that in the next three years, from the moment that they started up their console, their Xbox 360 will not give them the 'ring of death.'"

Moore said that after the three years, customers will be on their own regarding their broken consoles.

"Look. We can only promise so much and since the 360 can't be fixed using service pack updates, there's nothing we can do about it."
