[FEATURE] Top 10 Top 10 Lists (About Videogames)
They are the reason the Internet persists despite the abundance of superior forms of entertainment (e.g. koosh balls). These infallible lists have objectively ranked videogames in every conceivable category, and the ensuing fanboy battles serve to provide fresh blood in order to slake the thirst of forum moderators the world over. I take the time now to salute these wonders of the information age by creating my very own top 10 list of top 10 lists… about videogames.
10) GameFAQs – The Top 10 Most Memorable Cheats In Gaming History
Ah GameFAQs, how you have led me through many a game. For countless years I stayed in the walkthrough section of the site, oblivious to the fan community lurking mere clicks away. My discovery of said community revealed a world of unbridled fanboy passion, where the bonds of proper grammar and spelling could not tether these cyber pugilists. Needless to say, the wheat-to-chaff ratio is quite low in such an environment. This particular list, however, can be considered the diamond in the rough.

9) Game Trailers – Top Ten Consoles
This is probably the most contentious list in our Top 10, but that’s what makes it good. Also, it’s a video, so you can avoid reading for a while.

8) IGN – Best Gore Effects
The first (but not last) IGN list to make our ranking. This list focuses on the goriest events in gaming. The list maintains such conventions as mixing obvious choices, like the Resident Evil 4 chainsaw, with off the wall items like Rise of the Triad. It also gets points for ranking Eternal Champions as number 1 (a trend more lists should adopt).

7) GameSpy – Top Ten Worst Covers
GameSpy flips the proverbial script on us by ranking the worst videogame covers. In addition to this unexpected burst of creativity, the list taps into our collective nostalgia of videogames most of us have never played. Such iconoclastic behavior secures this list on ours.

6) Double Viking – Top 10 Most Violent Video Games
This list certainly does not paint a pretty picture of the game industry. Were an outsider to see it, they would clearly deduce that videogames only appeal to anti-social lunatics. Therefore, we must give Double Viking points for their dead-on accurate portrayal of gamers.

5) IGN – Tom’s Favorite Videogame Weapons
I don’t know who this Tom fellow is, but I respect his arsenal. Once again, IGN blends the familiar with the oddball, although they took a significant risk in ranking Light Discs from Tron as number one. If I saw the movie and barely remember them, what makes them think that their typical 12 year-old fan base would get the reference? Then again, in order to appeal to the preteen demographic, they should have just ranked the top 10 weapons from Halo.

4) GameSpot – Top Ten Boss Fights
We now turn our attention to the most hallowed of gaming traditions, the boss fight. GameSpot makes quite a few inspired choices, with Goro being one of the standouts, but the list is hampered by the decision to separate each entry to its own page. This one takes stamina to get through, but the content makes up for it.

3) IGN – Most Memorable Villains
Now you may ask, how are ranking villains different from GameSpot’s Top Ten Boss Fights? It really isn’t, but all the entries are on the same page, so it’s instantly better. Also, this is the last entry for IGN on the list, I promise.

2) Top 10 Overlooked Video Games
GameWad runs down some of the best games to fly under our collective radar. I am mainly using this entry as a soapbox to get Tim Schafer to make Psychonauts 2. DO IT NOW TIM!!!

1) Top Ten Boobies
This list provides a thorough look at female mammary development throughout videogame history. It particularly focuses upon 3d DO I REALLY NEED TO SELL THIS TO YOU?! Boobs. List. Watch. Now.
