Will Wright To Design Videogames Until Rap Thing Works Out
Will Wright has revealed that he is merely designing video games to “pay the bills” and that his true dream is to “make it in this rap game” in an interview with Electronic Gaming Monthly.
The legendary game designer, whose games have included the top selling Sim City series, was being interviewed for his upcoming game, Spore, when he let slip of his rap music career under the guise of ‘SimC Wizzy.’
“Man, this whole rap thing has gotta work out. Sure I designed some of the best sellin’ games ever, but I only feel it when the beat hits me an’ I spit a rhyme,” said Wright. “I been shoppin’ my demo tape around - had Kanye [West] put down some dope beats for me. Homie owed me one for that time I released The Sims: Hot Date. Dude been wantin’ to mack on them virtual honeys, yo.”
When asked why he would trade in an extremely successful career in videogames to take a chance in the highly volatile music industry, Wright responded, “I got a family, man, and videogames ain’t providin’ near enough scratch to keep ‘em happy. My daughter deserves to be rollin’ on 22-inch spinners, fo’ real.”
Wright joins an increasing number of game designers branching into the music industry. Last year Sid Meier and Tim Schafer formed a Las Vegas act in which they performed famous duets. Their recent release, The Complete Sonny and Cher Songbook, has gone multi-gold in over 30 countries.
