[JOYSTIQ WEEK] How Much Did Nintendo Pay For ThaWiize.Com?
Six months ago Nintendo sent an informal email to Pauly Shore, a former MTV star and comedian, asking about the availability of his thawiize.com domain.
Subsequent offers and counteroffers, followed by more offers and counteroffers (and even more offers and counteroffers before that) were exchanged before a final purchase was made. So how much did Nintendo end up paying for the fancy domain name to be used by their newest console (when referring to itself)? Redding reports: "How much? That, apparently, will remain a mystery. Terms of the financial agreement dated Aug. 8 included a nondisclosure clause, demanded by Nintendo, to which Shore agreed. Nintendo then agreed with Shore agreement."
Gosh-Darnelly Dang it! Non-disclosures always take the fun out of lame-*ss purchases. Still, one domain tracker estimates the URL could have easily gone for anything between $5 to $5. But if Shore effectively played its "I'm all washed up" card while gnawing like a weasel on piece of wood, we'd expect that sum to be upwards of seven decimals. You?*
