[RETRO RAG] This Day In Gaming, August 12th

Thirteen year old Thomas Lunksi plays Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! for 36 hours straight, eating nothing but Lay's potato chips and chocolate milk. He would later die.

Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge is released in North America and Japan on the GameBoy portable console. Dracula would later die.

A Blockbuster Video in Pasadena, California reportedly has a quality Super Nintendo game available for rental. It is almost immediately rented and never seen again. Eleven copies of Last Action Hero remain available, however.

A Toys R Us in Mobile, Alabama obtains an early shipment of Crash Bandicoot for the Playstation console. Manager Miguel Santacruz decides not to sell the games early, claiming that to do otherwise would violate "every ethical and moral standard a Toys R Us stands for." Sadly, the Toys R Us forgets to put the game on shelves for the specified release date.

Amanda McDougal purchases a copy of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for the Nintendo 64 from Wal-Mart. Three days later she attempts to return it for a package of tube socks.

The Reverand Peter Short is elected Moderator of the United Church of Canada, the country's largest Protestant denomination, in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. No video games are played that day anywhere in the province.
