Microsoft Unveils Xbox 360’s Long-Hidden Tilt Functionality

Microsoft VP of all that is Xbox and former Sega hotshot Peter Moore shocked us earlier today with a surprise announcement on his blog, pete-the_beat-moore.blogspot.com.

An upcoming Xbox 360 game will feature motion sensitive controls implemented into the 360 hardware long before Nintendo showed us the Wii controller. Here is the blog entry that may reshape the future of the console wars:

“Some say Nintendo came up with all this motion control innovation, some say Sony stole Nintendo’s ideas. Well we’re here to set the record straight with our latest game: Itchy Scratchy Land. Allow me to cite a little excerpt from the game’s manual:

‘Guide our DVD-ROM shaped hero through a razor-sharp futuristic world by tilting your Xbox 360 console! Pick it up and FEEL Your hand motions affecting what happens on-screen! HEAR the Xbox 360 console produce whirring and crackling sounds, simulating the virtual world of machinery our hero braves his way through!

'To add a layer of challenge, the on-screen hero’s motion will not necessarily correspond to the way you tilt the console. But don’t worry, you’ll know if you’re winning! When the TV screen freezes and the disk ejects scratched up beyond usability, that’s our way of saying “Game Over!”’

"Before you jump the gun and say that we announced this game in response to Nintendo’s and Sony’s new technologies, allow me to claim that we’ve had this game in development since 1993, originally planned for the Xbox. Unfortunately we found that too many testers dislocated their arms playing. We decided to shelve Itchy Scratchy Land until a new innovative console appeared: a console like the Xbox 360 which, while it lacks a hard drive, it weighs significantly less and has an internal architecture capable of completely scratching up a disk when tilted.

We are also currently evaluating an attachable handle peripheral for the Xbox 360 for a more comfortable grip and easier tilt functionality.

And with that,

Petey out.
Peace y’all.

P.S. X360 FTW!”

Allow us here at the Game Rag to break out of our unparalleled objective reporting for a moment to sincerely express our hope that Peter Moore does not turn the Xbox 360 into a kiddie console. We’ve seen the GameCube handle, Peter. Don’t do it.
