"Tommy" Game Scrapped
04.23.06 - Foundation 9 Entertainment announced on Friday that they were cancelling work on their video game adaption of "Tommy," the 1969 rock opera by the British band The Who.
"It just became too difficult to make a first person shooter game about a deaf and blind kid," explained Dan Duncalf, Eugene Studio division head. "Also, it was difficult to explain why the boy needed a chain gun."
There were other problems as well. "The story contained parts about child molestation and religious cults," noted Duncalf, "so it just seemed to not be appropriate material for a game after all."
When asked if this would impact Foundation 9's other Who adaption, "Quadrophenia," Duncalf was more optimistic. "Oh, a game based on an obtuse story about a kid with emotional and psychological problems as well as drug dependency would probably be easier to work on," he mused.
When reached for comment, primary "Tommy" author and Who guitarist Pete Townsend said, "What? Can you speak up? Hello? I'm hanging up now. What?"

I was looking forward to this one. Oh well, I hear EA's working on "Starlight Express: Roller Derby" for release at Christmas, so I guess I can wait.
