[REVIEW] Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time :: Intro Sequence Review

3.23.06 - There has been a surge of video game intros as of late and Nintendo is no stranger to this art form. It’s almost getting out of hand the way game companies feel the need to intro their games with some sort of fancy story sequence just to get you “interested” or to give you “information” about the “beginning” of the “story.” It’s an old storytelling device and the video game industry has been quick to pick it up. I am of the opinion that the video game intro is a thorn in the video game industry’s side and thus have resorted to pushing ‘start’ to ignore these intrusive “information” pits of hell.

With that said, I am very excited to be reviewing the intro sequence to Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, the new RPG for the Nintendo DS, created by the lads at Nintendo and ALPHADREAM. This new game has everything a RPG needs and more. Of course, I haven’t really played it to know exactly what it has (or really what an RPG needs). That’s not what I’m doing here. I’m reviewing the intro sequence and you don’t need to play the game to do that.

First off, the intro sets you out in space with a sort of Star Wars beginning using the words, “Really, really long ago... way far out in space...” It’s a bit improper but I think that is just setting up the tone of the game and it’s improperness. The backdrop is an eerie looking mushroom shaped planet. Really, I should say that the planet is creepy rather than eerie. The intro goes on to say that the beings that inhabit the creepy planet are, themselves, creepy and spend their time staring creepily into space. That’s where I got the whole “creepy rather than eerie” thing from before.

The intro says that these inhabitants were searching for a new home. Eventually they found it... I don’t want to spoil it for you so I won’t tell you where. Let’s just say that our heroes start their adventure at Peach’s Castle. That should whet your appetite just a little bit and get you salivating to play this game. Okay, so salivating is a little bit wetter than just whetting your appetite. All I’m trying to say is that you’re going to want to play this game when you get your hands on this intro sequence.

If the intro to Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time is any indication than get your goggles on because it’s going to be a wet and wild time! But make sure that your goggles can withstand wild as well as wet because like I just said, it’s going to be a wet and wild time! WET AND WILD!!
