Microsoft To Purchase Lionhead Studios For $540 Million

03.07.06 - Microsoft announced that it will be purchasing Peter Molyneux's development studio Lionhead for $540 million.

"We've had so much success with our other purchased studios that we thought we would take a chance and swoop up another," said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. "Bungie released our most popular video game to date and Rare released... Well... Rare was released from Nintendo's grips, so..."

The announcement comes right on the heels of the news that Lionhead Studios had to downsize and cut back on the amount of games they were working on. Peter Molyneux, the owner, sees this purchase as a way of getting some much needed time off.

"When Rare was purchased by Microsoft they were working on a bunch of stuff and Microsoft let them take a couple years off to mess around. I think that's great for morale and I am definitely up for some messing around."

The UK-based studio is working on a sequel to Fable and if all goes according to plan, it will feature pedophilia this time around.
