The President Of Video Games Gives State Of The Industry Address
2.13.06 - In lieu of the controversy that has dogged the videogame industry during this past year, including the infamous "Hot Coffee" scandal which garnered massive amounts of media attention only before seen when the "Halo 2" launch party at an Electronics Boutique store in Brookline, Massachusetts resulted in the trampling of 32 people and countless pairs of thick glasses – the President of Video Games, under pressure from both lawmakers and publishers, decided last week to give his annual report regarding the organization's doings in the past year.
"As an industry, we are addicted to violence. In the coming year, I propose we see less 'Grand Theft Auto' and more 'Katamari Damacy'. Less 'Solid Snake' and more 'Polygonal yet cute little guys with horns from Animal Crossing', less 'Hot Coffee' and more Iced Tea… I like Iced Tea," the President stated.
The President also made it a point to say to American lawmakers that the industry will do all it can to prevent children from buying violent games. "We will not stand idly by while 12 year-old kids are being sold such games as '50 Cent: Bulletproof' or 'Conflict: Desert Storm'. It is the position of this industry to protect children from sex, violence or profanity – even though they can invariably watch and listen to 50 Cent degrade women on MTV or download his songs on iTunes, or experience the bloody gore of the Iraqi war through their nightly news."
This year's state of the industry was received by most as a complete contrast from last year's speech, in which the President stated that videogaming would be permeated throughout the world, bringing people and nations together - even in North Korea.
