My Chemical Romance To Release Videogame
02.21.06 - Game developers still shocked over the success of rapper 50 Cent's foray into the videogame industry with "50 Cent: Bulletproof", have now branched out to other musical acts in search of similar hits.
"My Chemical Romance: Maraca Hardcore" was announced for a Q4 2006 release earlier today by the game's potential developer and publisher, Sega. "We really didn't know how to market a videogame based on this particular band" said Sega's Head of Research and Development in North America, Norman Cull.
"Our initial idea was to make a game in the vein of Grand Theft Auto, with the main premise involving one of the band members rescuing the others from an evil mob boss who wears makeup and only listens to Metallica. Instead we're going to do a sequel to Samba de Amigo with the band providing the entire soundtrack."
The band's members were enthusiastic about the deal. "I'm really hoping they sell it at Hot Topic. Then they can lump it together with the other 99% of our merchandise already on sale" said Gerard Way, lead singer.
Sega is hoping to have the game ready in time for late August, when MCR is set to release their next album "Laughing at the Black Heart of Corporate Greedy Fascist America with Blinding Rage", which will be sold in CD format, CD/DVD special edition, and UMD for PSP.
