Cubivore Sells Tenth Copy

2.07.06 - Nintendo of America has announced that Cubivore has finally sold ten copies in North America as of January 31, 2006. The game was released there in November 2002 by Atlus.

The unusual title, which lets players control a critter and battle other creatures in an attempt to evolve into a beast worthy of mating with, was met with disinterest from the western gaming public. Differing theories were given on why the game has been slow to sell, ranging from the N64-era visuals to the premise itself.

"The graphics totally sucked," explained a 13 year old named Jeffrey Bowers. "I would never play a game with such crappy graphics, unless it was for the PS2."

"The game is about an animal attacking and eating other animals, and then procreating," theorized Nathaniel Essington, an analyst for Majew Wang, Inc. "Sex and violence simply doesn't sell in this day and age."

Despite the limited enthusiasm for Cubivore, Nintendo hopes another of its quirky titles, the upcoming Chibi Robo, will do much better. "We expect at least 30 copies sold," mused Nintendo Vice President of marketing and corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan.
