David Ortiz To Sue Nintendo Over Pennant Chase Royalties

01.09.06 – David Ortiz, the star slugger who currently plays for the Boston Red Sox, is suing Nintendo for breach of contract, stemming from a dispute with the company over payment for his appearance as cover athlete for Nintendo's delayed Pennant Chase Baseball game.

"It's ridiculous" said Ortiz, while on vacation in his hometown of Santo Domingo. "I haven't seen one penny. Not uno."

Nintendo vice president George Harrison commented on the allegations, dismissing Ortiz's complaint.

"It's very simple. We offered to pay him an up-front fee for his services, or 3.5% of the total revenue coming from sales of the videogame. He chose the latter, and as you all know – the game has yet to be released".

In response to Harrison's comments, Ortiz said, "Exactly, that's what I'm talking about. Now you're getting it, chico. 3.5 percent, that's right. So how come they don't send me anything yet?"

Ortiz's agent, Nelson de la Rosa, previously famous for being Pedro Martinez's midget pal during Boston's 2004 World Series run, was unavailable for comment.
