Blitzball Announced As Olympic Event At 2008 Games

01.09.06 - Responding to criticism stemming from the elimination of baseball as an olympic sport, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge announced today that blitzball, a sport played only previously in Final Fantasy X, a video game released for the PS2 console, will fill the empty slot.

The announcement caused mixed reactions.

"This is unacceptable," said president of Mexico, Vicente Fox, "We've been trying to get competitive landscaping accepted into the Olympics for decades, and then they go and do this out of nowhere."

Hiroshi Oh, a college student from Tokyo, was much more pleased.

"My roommates and I would spend hours at a time playing blitzball, it was very exciting. Hey, does this mean there will be chocobos at the olympics too?"

At press time, only the nations of Japan and Nigeria have assembled blitzball teams. "Hey, we've got to start branching out to other sports eventually. We know how boring marathons are," commented N'Bochi Ogubamye, president of the Nigerian Olympic Association.
