Arkanoid RPG In Development

01.02.06 - Taito, a subsidiary of Square-Enix, announced it is working on an RPG based on the classic arcade game Arkanoid, which involved a small paddle moving left and right hitting a ball towards rows of blocks.

The updated story for the RPG will revolve around a young paddle named Gorotomopoho, orphaned during the devastating Multiblock War of 2932. He/she (it?) must travel the countryside to become the ultimate ball bouncing warrior, according to a Taito press release.

Along the way Gorotomopoho will battle enemy blocks of various strengths and capabilities, while also learning new power-ups and abilities himself. Gorotomopoho may also befriend other paddles that can join his party, creating opportunities for massive real-time battles against hundreds and even thousands of blocks.

However, Gorotomopoho's greatest conflict might be when he saves an innocent block...and falls in love...with the block.

"Is great love story mixed with super fight," explained Assistant Director of Communications Takarajimasha Tomo. "Will be epic game, so please buy when it come out in Fall."

But will the nefarious Doh be returning?

Will it be a Castlevania Dracula-style rebirth, or an inexplicable rebirth like that of Gannon?

I think this is being challenged by the makers of "Breakout: The Movie".

Also as a movie tie-in, a few of the falling capsules are rumored to contain a new Nintendo product of some kind!
