Xbox 360 Has Major Success In Japan
12.11.05 - Microsoft has struck gold in Japan with their new video game console, the Xbox 360, selling more than 50 consoles within two hours of it's release.
"We didn't quite expect this kind of momentum," said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of worldwide marketing and publishing for Xbox. "We have really struck a nerve with the Japanese."
According to Moore, Microsoft had only expected 50 consoles to sell "period." It's this kind of success that Microsoft has been banking on for this generation. They didn't have much success with the Xbox due to software not being interesting to the Japanese public and due to software not being interesting in general.
This isn't good news for everyone though.
"This is bad news for Bandai," said Kazunori Ueno, president of Bandai Co., Ltd. "We had plans to market a new handheld knowing full well that we wouldn't be in last place. This changes everything."
The Xbox 360 sports a new, slim look and more powerful graphics. It was released in the United States and Europe to much fanfare and to big eBay profits.
