Konami Plans "Don't Wake Daddy" Adaptation

12.14.05 - Based on the success of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Konami has announced plans to adapt Parker Brothers' abuse-themed "Don't Wake Daddy" board game into the video game format.

With Metal Gear Solid 4 in the works for the PS3, Konami plans to develop another game of "tactical espionage action," this time starring four children on a series of desperate ventures into the kitchen for a midnight snack as their loathsome and abusive father sleeps away his sorrows. The video game will follow the traditional rules of "Don't Wake Daddy," where the goal is to make it into the kitchen without waking daddy, sending him into an abusive rage sure to cause plenty of "falling down wounds."

With Metal Gear Solid head honcho Hideo Kojima at the helm, Konami's "Don't Wake Daddy" is sure to draw some comparisons with the popular series.

"Don't Wake Daddy is actually one of my favorite board games," said Kojima. "It was one of my inspirations for creating Metal Gear."

While board games tend not to have deep and compelling storylines, let alone main characters, Kojima hopes to create a cinematic experience comparable to Metal Gear Solid. As for specific details, Kojima remains expectedly tight-lipped.

"I will say this, the main character really is some kid," said Kojima. "He is not Raiden in a 'some kid' mask."
